U.S. POLICY ON JUGOSLAVIA

Moves In Congress To Halt Aid

(I*-Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 5. The Senate Republican leader (Senator William Know land) called today for a “searching reappraisal” of United States policy toward Jugoslavia as a result of Marshal Tito s current friendly attitude toward the Soviet Union.

Senator Knowland spoke out amid a number of demands that the United States cut off all aid to Jugoslavia because of the Jugoslav President’s statements during his present visit to Moscow.

Senator Joseph McCarthy (Republican. Wisconsin) introduced a bill to end all United States help to Jugoslavia. He said Marshal Tito’s Moscow visit proved the Communist countries were “marching along together” on the road to world domination.

In the House of Representatives, Mr Paul Fino (Republican; New York) said he would introduce an amendment to the Foreign Aid Bill tomorrow to remove funds for Jugoslavia, Egypt and India.

He said Marshal Tito’s Moscow visit “can leave no doubt of where his heart belongs.”

A Moscow message says that Marshal Tito and Soviet leaders yesterday discussed disarmament and Germany, as well as Soviet-Jugoslav relations, during their first serious negotiating session at the Kremlin.

They are expected to meet again and continue discussions on Saturday when the Jugoslav President will be back in Moscow after a two-day Visit to Leningrad. The former Soviet Foreign Minister (Mr V. H. Molotov) took part in the talks today. He is a full member of the Russian delegation, in spite of his resignation from office last Friday.
