WOMEN’S DIVISION OF EEDERATED FARMERS

Belfast.—Arrangements for members to visit a handcraft' centre at Rakaia were made at the May meeting of the division. Invitations were received to two birthday parties and the Brooklands division invited members to hear Miss J. Young, of the New Zealand Wool Board, when she visits the division on July 5. Mrs J. Halligan and Mrs Hendry displayeo handwork.

Marshland.—The monthly meeting ol the division was held in the Marshland Hall, with Mrs C. Ching presiding. An interesting demonstration on pottery making was given by Mrs A. E. Craig, of Spreydon-Hoon Hay Townswomen’s Guild. Mrs Craig showed many finished articles sh(T had made. Mrs Ching and Mrs Robertson were appointed delegates to the Federated Farmers’ meeting for the combined social-dance held annually. Manv traycloths for Burwood Hospital were handed in. Hororata.—A talk on her trip to Australia . was given by Miss E. Richards at the May meeting of the branch. Mrs W. Rowe presided. Diamond Harbour—Furan.-—A report on the inter-provincial conference at Oamaru was given by Mrs Hunter at the monthly meeting of the Diamond Harbour-Purau branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Wood presided. Mitcham-Rokeby.—Miss James presided at the monthly meeting of the MitchamRokeby branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Plans were made for members to attend a film evening. Hawarden.—The Hawarden branch met recently in the R.S.A. rooms. It was decided to support the appeal for CORSO. Members listened to an interesting talk by Mrs Wisdom about life in China.

Darfield.—Mrs J. Blamires presided at the monthly meeting of the branch After a short business report, a demon-stration-oh pottery making was given by Mrs Woolley, of Christchurch. She was thanked by Mrs T. Pascoe. Hanmer Springs.—The annual meeting of the branch was held in St. Andrew’s soldiers’ room. The president of the Hurunui provincial executive, Mrs Bethell, presided for the election of officers. Those elected were:—President. Mrs Malaquin; vice-presidents, Mesdames D. Atkinson. Long, and Shearer; secretary. Mrs Fitzgibbon; treasurer, Mrs Wood: advisory member, Mrs Shaw; executive member, Mrs Bullen; committee, Mesdames Gasson. Killah, Farrow, Durose. Corson, Muir, Phillips, T. Read, and Miss Gifkins. Mr Moodie was appointed auditor. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £42 16s 2d.. Trophies for competition during the year were won as follows: Cut flowers: Mrs Gasson 1, Mrs Saunders 2. Decorative: Mrs Saunders 1, Mrs Sullivan 2. Cooking: Mrs Saunders 1. Mrs Phillips. 2. Arts and crafts: Mrs Saunders 1, Mrs Wilson 2. Russell’s Flat.—The May meeting of the branch was held at the home of Mrs C. Reed, ‘‘Dalethorpe,’’ Mrs C. Reed presiding. Members stood in silence for a moment as a tribute to the memory of the late Mrs Qlorenshaw. A demonstration of cake icing was given by Mrs Davies.

Swannanoa.—The programme for the year was arranged at-the monthly meeting of the branch. Mrs Davis presided at the .meeting. The president was congratulated on being elected a member of the orovincial executive..

Rolleston—Constable Sergei, a member of the Christchurch Women’s Police Force, was guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Rolleston branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The fifth annual ball was held during the month, and £l5 was given to.the buildinc fund apd £3 to the community chest from the profits. The hostesses were Mrs Morrison and Mrs Buchan.
