HOLIDAY ROAD TRAFFIC
ABSENCE OF FATAL ACCIDENTS
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 5.
The Minister of Transport (Mr W. S. Goosman) said today that, up to 10 a.m. today, no fatal traffic accidents during the Queen’s Birthday week-end had been reported to the Transport Department.
“It is most encouraging that the Queen’s Birthday week-end has been free from road deaths.” said the Minister. “In spite of bad weather, traffic flowed smoothly, and reports indicate that the behaviour of motorists on the load was exceptionally good. “The motoring public should not allow the exceptional week-end results to lull them into a false sense of safety,” Mr Goosman said. “The increasing volumes of traffic magnify the customary winter dangers, and this winter will bring greater hazards than ever. Continued extra care will be needed all the time, particularly by pedestrians on the roads at night.”
