SALE OF BREWING PROCESS

CANADIAN PURCHASE FROM N.Z. COMPANY

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, June 5.

The world’s largest brewing firm has bought from Dominion Breweries, Ltd., the rights to use a New Zealand beer brewing process—‘‘the greatest and most spectacular development in the industry since Pasteur’s fermentation discoveries in 1860,” said the managing director of Dominion Breweries, Ltd. (Mr H. J. Kelliher), today. He said that an agreement had been entered into between Canadian Breweries, Ltd., and Dominion Breweries, Ltd., making available to the Canadian company and its subsidiaries the right to use the new brewing process in their operations in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Mr Kelliher said that research by his company over several years had developed an unorthodox and vastly improved technique, which brought about the removal of undesirable and unnecessary nitrogenous elements from the brew before fermentation. This meant that the physical control factors affecting the flavour and stability of beer, hitherto a constant problem to brewers, had been eliminated.

Dominion Breweries shares, which closed on Friday at 80s 6d, were sold yesterday in Auckland, after Mr Kelliher’s announcement, at prices up to 85s 6d.
