NATURALISATION CERTIFICATES
MOST ISSUED TO * DUTCH
Former residents of the Netherlands formed by far the largest number of aliens who were granted certificates of naturalisation and registration as New Zealand citizens during the year ended March 31, 1956, according to information supplied by the Department of Statistics.
They included 61 adult males who were granted certificates of naturalisation. and 24 adult females and nine children, who were granted certificates of registration as New Zealand citizens. Twenty-four former citizens of Czechoslovakia, 23 of Poland, 18 of Russia, 17 of Germany, and 11 of Italv were among those granted certificates of naturalisation. The number of certificates of naturalisation issued, 225 (221 males and 34 females), showed an increase of 35 over the previous year. Certificates of registration granted to adults numbered 415 (186 males and 229 females), which represented an increase of 51 over the previous year Certificates of registration granted to children numbered 107 (63 males and 44 females), which represented a decrease of eight over the previous year. •
Notices of intention to apply for naturalisation were received from 550 aliens in New Zealand, as against 571 for the year ended March 31, 1955.
