MAORI TOUR OF AUSTRALIA
TEAM OF 24 TO LEAVE ON JULY 29
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, June 5. The Maori Rugby League team to tour Australia will leave Auckland on July 29 by air for Sydney. This was decided at a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League’s council tonight. This was one of several recommendations that came before the meeting from a consultation between members of the council’s executive committee and the Maori Board of Control.
Others were that the touring party consist of 24 players, a manager, a coach, and a member of the New Zealand council, who is to be in charge of all financial arrangements. These last three will be selected at the next meeting of the council. Mr C. H. Siddle, a national selector, was appointed the council’s delegate on the four-men Maori selection panel, and it was also decided that out-of-pocket expenses be given at the same rate as the Kiwi’s allowances. x
