FIRST TEST AT SYDNEY

The New Zealand Rugby League team manager, Mr Ron McGregor, said today that yesterday’s defeat at Newcastle would not have any bearing on the first test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground next- Saturday. Newcastle beat New Zealand 20-5. The New Zealand team for the test will not be known until tomorrow. Mr McGregor said that a number of factors were against the Kiwis at Newcastle, where conditions were the worst he had seep. “We had a long bus trip from •Svdney. A number of players were making .their first appearance. The Newcastle players stood up while our fellows tried to play football. We did not field anything like our test team. Newcastle has a very strong side,” he said. , . , x , Mr McGregor said that his test players had come through the first two matches of the tour unscathed. New Zealand would be able to field its best combination on Saturday. The Kiwis trained today and will train again tomorrow before the test team is selected. Five new test players have been included in Australia’s team. They are: K. McCrohon, I. Moir, C. Connell, I. Doyle, and T. Tyquin. The Australian team is: Full-back: K. McCrohon. (Queensland); threequarters, I. Moir (New South Wales), R. Poole (New South Wales), A. Watson (Queensland), B. Carlson (New South Wales); halves, C. Connell (Queensland), K. Holman (New South Wales); lock, I. Doyle (Queensland): second row, T. Tyquin (Queensland), K. O’Shea (New South Wales); front row, R. Bull (New South Wales), K. Kearney (New South Wales), B. Davies (Queensland). Reserves: T. Payne (Queensland)., and D. Furner (Queensland).
