(Rec. 8 p.m.) TAIPEH, June 5. The Chinese Nationalist Military Information Service todav reported two naval clashes between Chinese Nationalists and Chinese Communists in an area west of the Nationalist-held Matsu Island last Sunday night and early on Monday morning. The official organ of the Nationalist Defence Ministry said that Nationalist patrol vessels “discovered four small targets west of Matsu, east of the mainland of Foochow, and opened fire. “The targets soon disappeared,” the report said.
The Taipeh renort continued; “At one minute past midnight a medium target was picked up by the Nationalist radar near Hsieh Yu, west of Matsu.
“Shortly after, another medium target and four small ones appeared on the radar screen.”
The report said that Communist ships opened fire on Nationalist vessels supported by Communist shore batteries.
The Nationalists claimed that one of the targets was presumably damaged after 15 minutes of shelling.
