Iraq Buys Arms

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, June 5. Iraq will spend at least £2,000,000 on the purchase of British arms, equipment. and defence stores this year and next, according to a Government White Paper on the defence aspects of the Bagdad Pact. It is revealed that Britain has agreed to waive the payment of £275.000 by Persia for property handed over to Iraq, on condition that Iraq spent at least £2.000,000 in Britain on arms, and put the balance towards the cost of training Iraq personnel in British establishments and on joint exercises, Britain accepted Iraq’s offer of fred rtorage accommodation and services for British personnel who may at any time be at the port of Basra in accordance with the existing agreements.
