CONFERENCE ON SECURITY
MR BARNETT RETURNS FROM AUSTRALIA
The Controller-General of Police in New Zealand <Mr S. T. Barnett > returned by air yesterday afternoon from Sydney after attending a security conference covering Australia and New Zealand.
“It is one of the things we just don't say a word about." Mr Barnett said with a laugh, when he refused to make any comment whatever about the conference.
Mr Barnett did speak briefly about proposals to introduce a five-day week for police in New Zealand. When the ! first school for commissioned officers I was held shortly at Trentham this mat- : ter would be discussed, he said. When the next results of examinations sat by i sergeants were known, it was hoped i that there would be sufficient passes tn augment the ranks of officers and thus I improve their hours. j The whole issue would come under review in the next few weeks, Mr Barnett said.
