N.Z. LAMB IN WALES

PRODUCERS’ BOARD CAMPAIGN GOODWILL VISIT TO CARDIFF The housewives of Cardiff, Wales, have lately learned almost as much about New Zealand lamb as have their counterparts in the farming village of Cardiff, New Zealand. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has just completed a goodwill visit to the Welsh Cardiff, with a team headed by Mr S. A. Chisholm, British representative of the board, and including a New Zealander who is now a television personality—Mrs Donald Campbell, wife of the world’s water speed record-holder. The New Zealand party, conducted a month’s campaign on behalf of the national product—New Zealand lamb. At the opening the Mayor of Cardiff (population 245,000) sent a message of greeting to the postmaster of Cardiff. Taranaki, New Zealand (population 238). A film on New Zealand meat production, made for the board, was shown for the first time. Mrs Campbell spoke to housewives at a Housewives’ Association meeting on life in New Zealand. A noted master butcher demonstrated the cutting of meat and the best ways to use New Zealand lamb. In the Cardiff press and on the Cardiff transport system, “New Zealand Lamb—Best in the World” was prominently featured. Special articles linked Cardiff, Wales, with Cardiff, New Zealand, and described farming life in the Dominion. The occasion was, of course, not allowed to pass without reference by a Welsh newspaper to the contention that “Wales is New Zealand’s toughest foe and warmest friend on the Rugby field, and when many more solemn events have been forgotten people m both countries will still be talking about the disputed try in the international match at Cardiff Arms Park in 1905.”

The Welsh newspaoers noted also that besides a Cardiff. New Zealand boasts a Bryndwrwyn, a Brynavon, and a Snowdon, to say nothing of the important suburb of Bryndwr, in Christchurch.
