Canberra Bombers For India
(N.Z. Press Association—Cnmiriaht) NEW YORK, June 2.
The “New York Times” said today in a dispatch from Karachi that Britain had agreed to sell sixty Canberra jet medium bombers to India.
The dispatch quoted a “high Pakistani Government source” for this information and said that the aircraft were scheduled for delivery to the Indian Air Force in 1957 and 1958. The dispatch said that the immediate reaction of the Pakistani Government was a decision to inform the British Prime Minister (Sir Anthony Eden) at the Commonwea'th Prime Ministers’ Conference in London this month that the sale of the aircraft was a violation of the Bagdad Pact and the South-east Asia Treaty Organisation.
