FIJIAN AMATEURS AT GREYMOUTH CANTERBURY-WEST COAST TEAM’S WIN (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. June 4. . St. Columba Hall. Greymouth, was filled ? tonight when the touring team of Fijian f amateur boxers met a team comprised of • six West Coast and four Canterbury 1 amateurs. The combined team won by 6 bouts to J 4. but the visitors should at least havt J come out even. One decision in favour ’ of L. Curtis (Greymouth) was very diffi- ’ cult to understand as his Fijian opponent won every round. There were three P other very even contests, and the deci- • sions could have gone either way. M. Tuck, winner of several New Zea- , land titles, came out from retirement to take part in the tournament and. up to ’’ the last round, was hard pressed. The Fijian heavy-weight, although conceding two stone to B. Dallieasi (Christ- I church), made an exceptionally good * showing and might well have obtained •* the judge's decision. The Fijians im- . pressed as a well-trained team of good * sportsmen. At the end of the tournament each f received a rug as a momento of their ’ visit, while members of the combined * team were presented with cups. The ’ Fijians handed round kava to officials of t the Greymouth Boxing Association and ’■ sang two songs, which delighted the audience. Results (Fijian boxers first):—P. Tors l (9st 21b) beat G.
