POSTAL SHOOT WITH AUSTRALIA SIX OF N.Z. TEAM SCORE DOUBLE POSSIBLES (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 4. A score six points less than the national record was achieved by the New Zealand smallbore rifle team competing in an international postal shoot against Australia in Invercargill today. Fourteen members of the 20-strong Dominion side were in the North Island team, which put up the record score of 7979.639 in the interisland shoot on Saturday. The New Zealand team scored 7973.645 out of a possible 8000 in two matches. Six members of the team achieved double possibles, and nine other marksmen gained one possible—a splendid effort. The Australian team will shoot at the end of this month, and the result should be known soon after. The. marksmen who shot double possibles were J. Lewis (Hutt Valley). A. H. Russell, and E Viles (both Wairarapa), E. L. Milne <Hawke’s Bay), I. K. Dunbar (North Canterbury), and I. Ballinger (Christchurch). Among the nine team members who gained a possible in one of the two rounds were the captain. C. Thom (Christchurch), and the two women members of the side. Mrs H. B. Cave (Wanganui) and Miss B. Earl (Hawke's Bay) Miss Earl mi c sed a possible in her other round by the slenderest margin. Lewis, with scores of 200.18 and 200.19, was New Zealand’s leading marksman. His total was 400.37. and Russell and Dunbar both returned 400.36. Scores:—
