CASES HEARD IN APRIL

During the month of April Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., in association with Mrs T. Green and Mr W. C. Colee, dealt with offenders in the Children’s Court as follows:

A 14-year-old girl was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare on a complaint that she was not under proper control. On a charge of motor-cycle conversion, a 16-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for 12 months.

A 10-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for two years on a charge of stealing a watch. On a charge of being idle and disorderly, a 16-year?old youth was placed under supervision for one year. On two charges of theft, a 12-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for two years, and ordered to make restitution of £6 16s.

A 14-year-old boy was admonished and discharged on a charge of theft of money from a newspaper box. Two boys, aged 14 and 12 years, were placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for 12 months on a charge of unlawful conversion of a motor-scooter.

On a charge of unlawful interference with a motor-vehicle, two boys aged 13 and 14 years were admonished and discharged.

A girl aged 15 years was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare on charges of false pretences, and obtaining credit by fraud. For riding a cycle a light a 16-year-old boy was fined £2. Restitution of £3 Is 3d and supervision by a Child Welfare Officer for one year was ordered when an 11-year-old boy appeared on a charge of wilful damage to a gas meter and the theft of its contents.

Three 14-year-old boys were admonished and discharged on charges of interfering with motor-vehicles. A 10-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer two years on a charge of theft

On a charge of theft of a cycle, a 13-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for one year.

A 15-year-old youth, charged with converting a cycle, was placed under supervision for a period of 18 months. For exceeding 30 miles an hour on a motor-cycle, a 16-year-old boy was tinea £5.

A 16-year-old girl was placed under jhe supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for two years on a charge of attempted theft. Two boys, aged 15 and 16 years were each fined £2 on a charge of using a motor-cycle with a defective silencer.

A 13-year-old girl was committed to /If.. , ca _re of the Superintendent of Child Welfare on a charge of breaking. entering and theft. Her companion, aged 17 years, was ordered to receive a period of Borstal training.
