Roger Becker ensured victory for Britain against Chile in the quarter-finals of the European Zone of the Davis Cup at Bristol today. Becker beat Andres Hammersley, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in 55 minutes to give Britain a winning margin of three rubbers to one, and a place in the European Zone semifinal. In the remaining match of the European Zone quarter-final at Bristol, L. Avala (Chile) beat W. A. Knight (Britain). 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. 6-0. Britain thus won the tie, 3-2. At Duisburg France gained a winning lead over West Germany in the quarterfinals, winning the doubles after taking two singles yesterday.
