KAIKOURA ARTS COUNCIL
RECITAL BY RICHARD FARRELL PROPOSED
The Kaikoura Arts Council, recently formed with the assistance of the adult education department of. Canterbury University College, will sponsor its first project this month in a recital by the New Zealand pianist, Richard Farrell. After achieving world-wide distinction, he has played privately before the Queen at Buckingham Palace and also at Royal command concerts. He now lives in Switzerland and from there makes his concert tours. The programme which Richard Farrell will give at Kaikoura includes works by Mozart, Variations on a Nursery Rhyme, “Ah, Vous Dirai-je Maman!” (the tune of Baa Baa Black Sheep); Beethoven, “The Appassionata” Sonata, the most fiery and bestknown sonata that Beethoven wrote for the piano; Brahms, Intermezzo in E minor and rhapsody in E flat; Ravel, “Ondine,” a reflection and impressionist composition of great beauty; Debussy, two preludes by the composer of Clair de Lune; Chopin. C sham minor Scherzo; Liszt, the Petrarch sonnet 104, from the “Years of Travel,” a set of descriptive piano works, drawing its inspiration from a sonnet by Petrarch.
