Hammarskjold Back In New York (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 7. The United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Dag Hammarskjold, today worked on the final report about his Middle East peace mission. The report was considered certain to win Security Council approval at meetings expected to be held next week. The Secretary-General flew back yesterday and received the congratulations of the welcoming diplomats. Mr Hammarskjold himself was cautious about his accomplishments. although his month-long negotiations for a cease fire as a first step toward preventihg an Israeli-Arab war have been widely acclaimed.
About the middle of the week, the Secretary-General plans to Give all United Nations members copies of his final report, so that they can speed it home to their governments for study and instructions.
The Secretary-General has said that he received unconditional pledges from Israel and Egypt for a cease-fire, and that he negotiated for similar agreements with the others, getting “positive results.”
He has declined to give an exact definition of the terms “positive results.”
