U.S. Buyer Praises British Dresses
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 4. An American fashiort buyer yesterday said that British clothes are not dowdy now. Mr Andrew Arkin, of New York, aged 32, but experienced in the business of making dresses for American women, flew to London yesterday and did a £250,000 deal in British fashions, the “News Chronicle” reports. He has bought 20,000 dresses from the Frederick Starke autumn collection, taking British-made clothes to the average American woman for the first time. “ ‘Dowdy’ used to sum up the American view of British fashion." he said. “But that is in the past. For fabric values, styling, and meticulous finish, these are the best clothes I have seen in Europe.”
