MATCH RACE ON MAY 19 (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 6. Plans were completed at Te Rapa yesterday for a match race between leading three-year-old colts, Syntax and Coleridge, on the third day of the Waikato Racing Club’s winter meeting, on Mav 19. The match race will be held between the second and third races. The club has offered a prize of £7OO for the winner. Both colts will carry 8-9, which is standard weight-for-age over a mile in this month. Their riders, who are almost certain to be N. B. Holland (Syntax), and G. F. Hughes ‘Coleridge), will toss a coin in the birdcage before the race to decide which will have the inner running. Yesterday. Mr J. L. McDonald, who owns and trains Coleridge, said his colt would set out from the start to make a “cracking pace.” According to his owner. Mr S. H. Walker. Syntax is thriving in preparation for the race.
