SHIPPING COMPANY WOUND UP
GREYMOUTH FIRM SELLS MELVA TO RAROTONGA The Greymouth Shipping Company, which was formed to operate the Melva on the run between Greymouth and the North Island, will be wound up with the selling of the vessel. The Melva, which was built in 1945, has been purchased by Captain Williams, of Rarotonga. The company found difficulty in obtaining cargo for the Melva. which frequently left either Greymouth or Wellington only half loaded, and so the venture lasted little more than a year. She was laid aside, but was later chartered. After a few trips to Jackson’s Bay. however, she was returned to the company, which is likely to be a substantial loser on its outlay.
