Mr Carlton Hunt, a professor of neuro-physiology at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in the United States, arrived in Auckland yesterday. During his stay of one week in New Zealand, he intends to visit the department of physiology at the University of Otago to discuss problems of research into the nervous system of the spinal cord.—(P.A.)
Mr Henry Schacht, one of America’s best known radio broadcasters on agriculture, will arrive by air at Auckland on Wednesday on a visit to Nev/ Zealand. He will visit agricultural research centres and farming areas in the Dominion to gain information on farming methods here. Mr Schacht has helped to promote a tour by an American stockmen’s party, which is now in Australia and will arrive in Christchurch on April 14.—(P.A.) Mr L. Pownall, senior lecturer in geography at Canterbury University College, was appointed to represent the college council on the board of governors of the Christchurch West High School, at a meeting of the council yesterday. He replaces Professor N. C. Phillips, who was granted retirement at his request. Mr L. J. Collins, whose term as representative on the Waimate High Schol board expires at the end of this month, was reappointed. Mr W. Wright, who is retiring after 36 years’ service as permanent way repairer with the Christchurch Transport Board, has been sent a letter of appreciation bv the board.
