UNDEVELOPED LAND NEAR CHANEYS
MR L. C. WALKER URGES INDUSTRIAL USE Undeveloped land owned by local bodies and situated between Chaneys and the Waimakariri river traffic bridge, and between Burwood and Chaneys, and other areas, will be inspected by a party representing Government, business, and local body interests on Thursday afternoon. The visit has been organised by Mr L. C. Walker, who considers that such land, which will be very close to the new railway line over the Waimakariri river, could be used, for establishing industries. Mr Walker said yesterday that 1050 acres of land between Chaneys and the Waimakariri river was owned by the Christchurch City Council and was completely undeveloped. Between Burwood and the Waimakariri river traffic bridge, the council owned 3200 acres, all of which was not being used. This land, he considered, could be developed for factory sites, especially because it was easily accessible to the new railway line. The party will also visit areas near Spencer Park, Brooklands, and Stewart’s Gully.
