ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETIES
GRANTS MADE FROM POOL FUNDS In order to give some stability to. the finances of the acclimatisation societies grants would be made from the fisheries pool fund on a five-year basis, it was decided at the annual meeting of the Council of the South Island Acclimatisation Societies in Ashburton on Monday. Grants were made as follows: West Coast-Westland. £400: Nelson-Marl-borough, £500; Waitaki-Waimate, £5OO. The grants to the two former societies were made for the purposes of joint ranging and to the latter on the condition that a satisfactory scheme could be evolved for joint ranging. Some of the societies expressed concern at the continued growth of the pool fund since it had been formed. The balance in the fund at March 31. 1955. was £3185.
