GIRLS NOT AT CEREMONY
MR HOLLAND’S COMMENT Because of the limited space available not all of the girls attending the Christchurch Girls’ High School could attend the opening of the new dormitory wing at Acland House yesterday afternoon by the Prime Minister. Mr Holland. “This is a red letter day in the history of the school,” said the headmistress. Miss R. F. C. Tyndall. “There is probably only one occasion in the life of any pupil in which she can remember the visit of a Prime Minister to the school or any part of it. I am sorry that the whole school is not here, but space does not permit bringing 692 girls here from Cranmer square. Had this function been held at the school the space problem would have been even worse. “The girls who’ are not here are. however, participating in the occasion.” said Miss Tyndall, “as they are being released from school at 3 p.m. instead of 3.45 p.m.” “I am not sure that the girls who are not here have not got the best of the bargain.” said Mr Holland, speaking later. “They have time off and they do not have to listen to me.”
