CHILDREN’S COURT

During January, Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M. and his court associates, Mrs T. Green and Mr W. C. Colee. dealt with the following cases in the Children’s Court:—

A 15-year-old boy was committeed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare on a complaint that he was a delinquent child.

For being unlawfully on premises, a 15-year-old boy was admonished and discharged. Supervision for two years was ordered when a 14-year-oid boy admitted the theft of a bicycle. For theft of money, a 16-year-old boy was admonished and discharged. For breach of the Wild Life Act. a 17-year-old youth was admonished and discharged.

Restitution of 6s was ordered when two 14-year-old boys appeared on a charge of theft of stationery. A fine of £1 was imposed on a 16-year-old boy for having no light on his bicycle. For offences of cycle conversion and breaking, entering and theft, a 16-year-old boy who had appeared before the Court previously, was ordered Borstal training.

For unlawfully interfering with a motor-car, a 16-year-old boy was placed under supervision for 12 months and on an additional' charge of attempted theft, he was fined £5. On charges of robbery and theft of money, a 15-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for two years. A 15-year-old boy was committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare on a charge of stealing a sum of money. Three 15-year-old boys were placed under supervision for a period of 12 months and ordered to make restitution of £26 12s 4d each, on a charge of unlawful conversion of a motorcycle.

A 15-year-old boy who appeared before the Court on a number of charges involving breaches of the Traffic Regulations was placed under supervision for 12 months.

For theft and wilful damage, a 13-year-old boy was placed under the supervision of a Child Welfare Officer for 12 months.

A 16-year-old girl was placed on probation when she admitted the theft of a handbag. A suspended sentence was ordered when a 14-year-old girl was charged with breaking, entering and theft.
