QUEEN’S FLIGHT

PLANES “OUT OF DATE BOX KITES” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 7. A former airman, now a Conservative M.P., complained in the House of Commons this week of members of the Royal Family being flown in old aircraft. Wing Commander N. J. Hulbert sa d during a debate on the Air Estimates that he had heard it said in foreign countries where aircraft of the Queen’s Flight had landed: “Why on earth do you let your Sovereign and members of the Royal Family fly round in out of date box kites?” He suggested that the Queen’s Flight was not only for the comfort of the Queen and the Royal Family, but for the prestige of the Air Ministry and the aircraft industry. It should be equipped with the latest, best, fastest and most . comfortable aircraft Britain could provide. The Queen’s Flight comprises three twin-engined Vikings and one fourengined Heron.
