TRACK WORK AT OMOTO
SLOW TIMES RECORDED ON HOLDING TRACK (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, March 6. Conditions were unpleasant at Omoto this morning when horses which have engagements at the Greymouth Jockey Club's summer meeting on Saturday were galloped. Most of the work was on the course proper, which was slightly holding after heavy showers, and not conducive to fast times. Two of the first to work were Aglow (F. Escott) and Scrum (M. Mundy), which came home from the five furlongs in lmin 9sec. Costello (W. Perrie) was sent once round at a strong pace, and recorded 1 i min 20sec for the six furlongs. Matahiwi (A. Campbell) was sent over five furlongs, coming home from the half mile in 55sec. In a similar task, Chellene (A. Campbell) recorded 56 2-ssec for the final four of her five furlongs. Royal Vai (C. J. Walsh) and Welcome Inn <W. Perrie) were partners over half a mile, and finished together in 53 3-ssec. Goldtina (W. Perrie) recorded the best sprint of the morning, running from the half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Arabian Stream (C. J. Walsh) and Peter Bruce (W. Perrie) were sent over one round on the plough at a good pace. Riding engagements for Saturday include:—W. D. Skelton: Costello, Royal Vai, Peter Bruce. Arabian Stream. G. W. Mein: Aglow. N. T. Cowles: Matahiwi. Lights On, Goldtina, Torch Star. M. D. Alexander: Jesse James. J. M. Dempsey: Merriment. A. Cowan: Lovelily, Ironside. W. Perrie: Welcome Inn. R. J. Skelton, who will ride at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting on Saturday, will return to ride at Omoto on Monday, when his mounts will include Sun Up, Miss Meteor, and Lovelily.
