TRUSTEE SAVINGS BANK
Sir, —Commenting on the plan of the Chamber of Commerce, as printed in “The Press” of March 3, if the Government passes new or amended legislation, or gives a guarantee of fidelity as suggested, it is morally responsible for the issue. That would place it under political control. In contrast, we have the Post Office Savings Bank, of which, in effect, every depositor is a shareholder.
It is so simple that even a child can understand it. All can go and withdraw their share, according to their deposit. It upholds the dignity of man: it is an institution where no questions are asked about how you spent the first sixpence mother gave you, perhaps 60 or 70 years ago.— Yours, etc., SILVER NIB. March 4, 1956.
