CO-EDUCATIONAL SCHOOLS
Sir, —Is it not a case of democracy run mad to have a vote on co-educa-tional schools? Next we shall vote I for brick or wood, shorts or longs, football or soccer! I hope, if a vote is taken, some attempt will be made to educate voters, for and against, to avoid just a record of blind prejudice. A pamphlet or leaflet would help. Surely some student of education in the Dominion has written a thesis on this which might be used as a basis. The point Mrs Bennett raised last week should also be clear: will the so-called co-educational school let the pupils mix in a normal way or do the sexes remain quite separate, both in class and playground, though being taught m the same building Could we be informed as to what is the position in the present co-educational schools in Christchurch?—Yours, etc., J.J.
