OFFENCES AGAINST GIRL

THREE PERSONS PLEAD GUILTY (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, January 24. Three persons, a husband and wife and another man, were remanded for sentence until January 27 after they had pleaded guilty today, before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to committing offences against a 13-year-old girl. The girl had been placed in the care of the married couple by the Child Welfare Department. Ahipene Rangi Paenga, aged 30, and Ronald Watson, aged 37, each pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. Massey Paenga, aged 29, the wife of Ahipene Rangi Paenga, pleaded guilty to a charge of procuring. Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson, who prosecuted, said that the girl, after running away from home, had associated with Watson. The Magistrate admitted Mrs Paenga to bail in her own recognisance of £5O, with one surety for the same amount. The Magistrate said he took this step to allow Mrs Paenga to make arrangements for the care of her five children.
