MAIDEN PACERS’ TRIAL

SIX HORSES QUALIFY AT ASHBURTON

Six of the 20 horses to start in three qualifying heats at trials held yesterday at Ashburton by the Mid-Canter-bury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association paced the mile and a half in 3min 30sec or better. The general standard of horse produced was very poor, the majority of them showing that they had not had sufficient fast work.

Lillium, a member of J. B. Pringle’s team, recorded the fastest time in the three heats. A three-year-old filly, she is by Light Brigade from a useful mare in Liliaceae. She and Marcina drew right away from the others. Marcina, which is owned and trained at Ashburton by A. C. Aymes, is a four-year-old mare by U. Scott from Rainstorm.

She looks as though she may improve. Results:— First heat: Adoration scr M. L. Edwards 1; Lucky Judy scr J. L. Behrns 2; Gay Kinnola scr L. J. Fahey 3; Epicure scr T. C.
