WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 24. At the Sydney wool sales today the market ruled fully firm for all descriptions of Merino, comeback and crossbreds compared with yesterday. There was a strong general demand from Britain, Japan and the Continent with useful support from the United States and local mills. Of the 16,812 bales offered, 16,251 were sold. Crossbred prices included: good crossbred combing fleece 60/58’s, 79|d; 58’s, 71d; 56’s, 68d; 56/50’s, 65d; good average crossbred combing fleece 58’s light burr, 691 d; 56’s light burr, 60d. At Geelong The Geelong sales opened firm on the closing rates of last week for all types and qualities. Competition was brisk and general from all sections of the trade. Chief buyers were the Continent, Great Britain, and Japan, with support from local mills and the United States. Crossbred prices included: extra super 60-64’s, 86Jd; super 56’s, 73d; good to super 50’s, 67d.
