Denial Of Threat To Resign

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 23. Fleld-Marahal Sir John Hardlnc. the Governor of Cyprus denied heatedly in a television Interview to-night that he Intended to realtn because of a **row” with Sir Anthony Edon.

He declared that newspaper reports alleging this were certainly untrue and quite monstrous. Sir John Harding said the reports merely gave currency to broadcasts by the anti-British Athens radio, alleging that he had been in conflict with the Government. Earlier today'Sir John Harding met Sir Anthony Eden for the third time in four days. Today’s meeting between the Governor and the Prime Minister took place against a background of rumours suggesting that Sir John Harding might resign through disagreement over the Government’s handling of the Cyprus issue. Government officials denied these reports. Sir John Harding rejected them in even plainer terms in his television appearance. Asked if there ever would be a solution in Cyprus. Sir John Harding said: “I believe if all the parties concerned. both in anef outside Cyprus, were to exercise restraint and goodwill and would be prepared to sacrifice individual aspirations for the good of the whole, then a solution would be possible. “In other words, if there is the will a way can be found. “Personally I am quite determined to work all out for a solution and equally determined to stamp out
