Deep Ocean Trench Found Off Chile
(Rec. 9 p.m.) BARKELEY (California), Jan. 23.
The discovery of the deepest ocean trench ever found in the entire eastern half of the South Pacific was reported today by Dr. Parker Trast, a University of California engineering scientist.
He said the trench was 26.000 ft deep, was three miles across at its widest point, and was nearly 500 miles long. It was situated about 50 miles off the Chilean coast. The trench was 950 ft deeper than any previously recorded depth in the area.
