DOBSON YOUTH HOSTEL

FINANCE RAISED BY MEMBERS’ EFFORTS

The Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson Memorial Youth Hostel, which has been open for five months, has been a boon to scores of Youth Hostel Association members visiting the Arthur’s Pass National Park this summer.

At the time of the opening, outstanding accounts totalled £735 and this figure rose to £B4l. These have now been paid through the cooperation of members and supporters. Subscriptions provided £7O, gifts £l9, socials £2l, competitions £149, a jumble sale £36, and sale of building equipment £l5. A major reduction was made through the contractor (Mr S. C. V. Muirson) reducing his account for the main framework and roof by £BO. This makes the largest individual contribution to the project. Mr Muirson worked on the job himself.

The remaining finance has been supplied in the meantime by loans from members and efforts are now being concentrated on repayment of these commitments.
