KAIAPOI WINS TWO HEATS (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 23. Narrow but meritorious wins in the first two heats of the Cornwall Cup junior yachting championship at Macandrew Bay today placed the Kaiapoi crew—Melvyn Seiwood (skipper) and Murray Freeman—in a commanding position in the contest. They now need only one more victory to win the trophy. For the race tomorrow morning, Selwood has drawn the Wellington boat. Exclaim, which was fourth and third in today’s races. Kaiapoi’s hardest opponent has.been another Canterbury crew, Lyttelton, which finished close seconds in each event. Christchurch had a third and a fourth, and Paramata had a third and a fifth. Results:— Fjrst heat: Kaiapoi (M. Seiwood, M. Freeman), Ihr 23min 13sec, 1; Lyttelton (D. Eastmond, P. Pritchett), Ihr 23min 35 sec, 2; Christchurch (B. E. Loader, S. C. Loader), Ihr 24min 7sec, 3. Second heat: Kaiapoi, Ihr llmin 4sec, 1; Lyttelton, Ihr llmin 25sec, 2; Paramata (M. Mountier, M. Winthrop), Ihr 13min 35sec, 3. BANKS PENINSULA CLUB Sixteen keelers took part in a harbour race of approximately nine miles, held by the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club on Saturday. The race was sailed in a fresh north-westerly wind. K. W. Duggan, sailing his first race in his newly purchased April, was a popular winner. The other fleet placings were Oamo (R. G. Smith) second, and Murare (W. H. Brown) third. A class placings were: Murare 1, Ocean Maid (J. K. Gibson) 2, Pucana (L. Bachop) 3. B class: April 1, Aoma 2, Sea Goer (J. W. Read) 3,
