LAND BOUGHT BY CROWN

2388-ACRE BLOCK AT HAKATARAMEA “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, January 23. The Crown has bought 2388 acres at Hakataramea from the Australian and New Zealand Land Company for the settlement of former servicemen. Two sheep farms of about equal acreage will be provided from the area, and they will be offered to eligible servicemen suitably graded for the locality when the Crown takes possession in April. The Director-General of Lands (Mr D. M. Greig) said the department would take over stock at valuation from the company so that the successful men would go on to operating units. “But there will still be plenty of scope for development,” he said. In 1947, the company sold land at Moeraki which resulted in the settlement of 12 men on separate units.
