MARRIAGE LAWS IN AFRICA
Temporary Suspension Of New Order (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) CAPE TOWN. January 6. The South African Minister of the Interior (Dr. T. E. Donges) has decided to suspend for three months the new marriage regulations which would have required couples to supply identity numbers of themselves and their parents before marriage. The regulations, which were to come into force on January 1. were part of the Government’s apartheid (racial segregation) legislation, under which all races are to be classified and are to carry identity cards. South African laws -forbid marriages between whites and non-whites.
