SAWING RECORD CONFIRMED
CONFERENCE OF AXEMEN’S UNION (Neio Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 6. A new record for the double-handed sawing of an 18-inch white pine log was confirmed by the New Zealand Athletic. Cycling. and Axemen’s Union at its annual conference at New Plymouth today. The record of 10.2 seconds was ■claimed by E. Hogg and W. Donnelly, of Southland. The secretary (Mr R. G. Webb) said there was no world record for the event. Only unofficial records could be claimed. The following officers were elected: President, Mr H. E. T. Sutton (Invercargill); vice-presidents. Messrs W. R. Yardley (Waitara): G. L. Fiveash (Greymputh), and E. W. Funnell (Nelson); secretary. Mr R. G. Webb (Invercargill); auditor, Mr A. J. Fraser (Invercargill): committee, Messrs E. Hopewell (Otago), M. Bills (Wellington), K. Wilson (Christchurch), T. Stoddart (Timaru), W. C. Warner (Raetihi), G. R. Cook < Waipukurau), J. Saunders (Gisborne); delegates to New Zealand Cycling Federation. Messrs G. T. Henderson (Christchurch) and H. H. Fraser (Timaru).
