Hundreds of holiday-makers ate bigger meals than usual at Mount Maunganui m the holidays when wet weather kept them off the beaches. One restaurant served 2001 b of steak and 52 dozen eggs in two days, and 601 b of fish a day, as well 'as eight sacks of potatoes in the form ° f Another eating-house served 5001 b of sausages. 3001 b of steak, 5001 b of fish and 68 sacks of potatoes in one week. A hot-dog stand served 10.000 hot dogs in two weeks. The bakery, baking 14,000 loaves a week, could not cope with the demand from campers.
