CRICKET AUCKLAND TEAM BEATEN
GAME WITH NORTHERN DISTRICTS (New Zetnann mtpks Association) HAMILTON, December 1. Although its prospects of victory appeared negligible at the end of the second day’s play in the representative cricket match against Auckland at Seddon Park, Hamilton, Northern Districts fought back on the third and final day today and won by four runs. In its first innings. Northern Districts scored 138, and Auckland replied with 218. The second day ended with tne Northern Districts score at 93 for five wickets. This morning S. Munro and M. Langdon were associated in a slow but valuable stand which produced 57 runs for the sixth wicket, and ensured that there would be at least some interest in Auckland’s second innings. Bright scoring by. J. A. Turnbull and D. Hoskin lifted the total, and Northern Districts was dismissed for 189. Requiring HO runs to win and having four hours in which to score them, Auckland seemed to be assured of a win. J>ut the young pace bowler, Hoskin, dismissed B. Norman and D. L. Perry with the totalat 12. J. Waddingham and B. J. Posdcs carried the score along smoothly untl they were separated at 48, and then four more wickets fell cheaply. With •seven down for 68, G. A. Richards and E. F. Dunn settled down to play steadily, and at the tea adjournment Auckland still had three wickets in hand and only 14 runs were needed. Within a quarter of an hour after the adjournment, however., those widkets fell. « I The Northern Districts left-hander, A. F.
