MANUTUKE FARMER WINS FIRST PRIZE (New Zealand Press Association! GISBORNE, December 1. Mr Fred Jones, a farmer, of Manutuke, won first prize of £5OOO in the “Quick and Busy” art union drawn on Tuesday Aged 27, Mr Jones is married, and has two young children. He said today that in the last few months he had taken over 60 acres of land Tor a dairy farm, but with limited capital had found the going hard. He had had to borrow from his brother or his father much of the equipment used on the farm, but everything seemed to go wrong with the borrowed articles, with the result that he was often faced with expenditure in making good any damage caused. Mr Jones played for the Poverty Bay Senior Rugby representatives.
