WOOLSTON ANIMAL HOME

ASSOCIATION TO SELL PROPERTY

-A ke . anim al home in Glenroy street. Woolston, which is run by the Animal Protection Society, will be closed, and the proceeds held in trust for the establishment of an animal clinic in Christchurch. This was decided at the annual meeting of the society. The home had originally been established 15 years ago for the protection of stray cats and dogs, said the president (Mr G. O. Dowling). However, there now tended to be “more boarders than strays.” “We think that the next best thing to do is to sell the place and with the proceeds form a clinic in the city,” he said.

‘ I think it is the finest thing we can do,” said Mr J. B. Edwards. “There is no animal clinic in this city, but there are a lot of people whd want somewhere to take their sick animals.” Mr Dowling spoke of the early struggles of the society, and paid a tribute to the work of the foundation members, three of whom—Mrs E. Jeffreys, Mr P. R. Edwards, and Mr F. Whiteman—were present. He also commended the efforts of the late Mr H. J. Green and Mrs Green, who were honorary custodians of the home for more than seven years.
