CHALKLIN MEMORIAL LECTURE
ROYAL SOCIETY HONOURS FORMER PRESIDENT At the request' of several members, the council of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand has set up a memorial to Professor F. C. Chalklin. who was president of the society in 1950 and, until his death in an air crash at Singapore last year, Professor of Physics at Canterbury University College ahd a member of the society’s branch council. The memorial is to be an annual lecture on some phase of physics, to be known as the Chalklin Lecture, and physicists from any part of the Dominion may be invited to give the lecture.
The following officers were elected: president. Dr. R. R. Forster; vice-presi-dents, Professor E. Percival and Mr B. W. Collins; secretary, Mr C. R. Russell; treasurer, Mr C. H. Labatt: librarian. Mr C. W. Collins; representatives on the council of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Professor R. S. Allan and Mr B. W. Collins; ordinary members of the council. Dr. I. D. Blair, Dr. G. L. Clark Dr. R. Duff, Dr. C. D. Ellyett, Mr C. E. Fenwick, and Dr. R. Pilgrim.
