TRIBUTE TO WORK OF MR M. J. BARNETT
RESIDENTS SUGGEST NAMING PARK
The perpetuation of the name of Mr M. J. Barnett, who retired from his position of director of reserves in Christchurch this month, by the naming of a park or reserve after nun was suggested by the North New Brighton Residents’ Association in a letter received by Residents’ affiliated. The suggestion will be forwarded to the City Council as a recommendation. Alternative suggestions by the association were that the recently-con-structed glasshouse at the Botanic Gardens, be named after Mr Barnett; or that some fund be established for providing some amenity at the gaidens in commemoration of his work; or that a plaque of recognition be placed near the entrance, to the gardens.
