BOYCOTT ON WOOL SALES

Buyers’ Action In South Africa

(Rec. 10 p.m.) DURBAN. October 19. South .African wool brokers and buyers will meet in Durban tomorrow to discuss a dispute which has caused the suspension of all wool sales at Soutji African ports. Mr Basil Jenman, president of the South African Wool Buyers’ Federation, who announced the meeting today, said: “I do not think there will be any deadlock at the meeting tomorrow.”

The suspension of sales was announced yesterday after buyers in Port Elizabeth boycotted a sale of wool worth about £420,000 because of new Government export regulations.

Buyers have said they find it impossible to operate under the regulations. One of their main complaints is that they cannot inspect wool in brokers’ stores to their satisfaction. Mr Jan Mnolman, chairman of the South Afriuaa Wool Board, will be present at the meeting tomorrow, which brings together buyers and brokers from Cape Town, East London and Port Elizabeth.

Mr Moolman said yesterday that the decision to postpone sales had been reached with tne approval of the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Stephanus le Roux).
