TRAMWAYS DISPUTE
PAPERS FILED AT WELLINGTON
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 20.
Papers in the tramways dispute were filed with the clerk of awards in Wellington today. The next step will be the making of a fixture by the Court of Arbitration for a hearing of the dispute. Even if the Court hears the dispute and delivers its award promptly, immediate reversion to the former tram and bus timetables will not necessarily follow.
The roster governing days on and off duty, which is being followed in Wellington, cannot be altered without the mutual consent of the management and the union before the end of November. If the union maintains its present ban on overtime and insistence on adherence to the present roster, there can be little improvement in the service.
