INDOOR BASKETBALL
CANTERBURY TEAM BEATEN (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, September 1. The undefeated Canterbury side went down, to Palmerston North by 42 points to 34 last night in the men’s national A grade indoor basketball championships. Palmerston North lost earlier in the day to Hamilton, and as a result three teams, Canterbury, Palmerston North, and Auckland are now on even terms in the first division. Results were:— First Division.—Hamilton beat Palmerston North. 53-44; Wellington beat Otago, 41-32; Canterbury beat Otago, 47-43; Auckland beat Hawke’s Bay, 40-24; Palmerston North beat Canterbury, 42-34; Wellington beat Hawera, 50-47. Second Division.—Section I: Nelson beat Rotorua, 41-28; Wairarapa beat Otago B, 34-28; Aucklahd B beat HorowhAiua, 48-22; Nelson beat Gisborne, 51-50; Rotorua beat Horowhenua, 56-35. Section II: Southland beat Central Otago, 27-22; Wanganui beat Marlborough, 54-40; Hutt Valley beat Taihape, 35-31; Taihapb beat Central Otago, 68-56.
