ACCIDENTS
WATERSIDE WORKER KILLED PACKING CASE FALLS ON HEAD (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 29. A 59-year-old waterside worker. Mr C. M. Brooks, of Bute street, Wellington, was killed when a 30cwt packing case fell on his head in the hold of the Nottingham at Aotea quay today. Mr Brooks had been a member of the executive of the Wellington Waterfront Industrial Workers’ Union since 1944. DRIVER INJURED IN COLLISION Bramwell Roger Watkins, of 109 Rattray street, Riccarton, was injured in a collision between the car he was driving and a truck outside a quarry gateway on Springs road, Halswell, yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. MAN FALLS 20 FEET FROM LADDER Falling about 20 feet from the top of a ladder attached to a pole on to the deck of a truck, Benjamin J. Bryant, of Kermode street, Ashburton, an employee of the Ashburton Electric Power Board, suffered lacerations and possible internal injuries yesterday. He was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital, and last evening his condition was reported to be satisfactory.
